As urban populations grow and climate change exacerbates natural disasters, the need for buildings that prioritize safety and durability has never been more urgent. Over the years, advancements in materials science, structuralengineering and computational modeling have transformed how architects approach earthquake-resistant design.
Today, the Webuild group advanced a proposal designed in collaboration with architect and MIT professor Carlo Ratti and French structuralengineer Michel Virlogeux for a new bridge in Baltimore that would replace the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.

At their most basic function, structuralengineers design the bones of a new building to resist forces caused by gravity and the elements.
To balance formal requirements and environmental sensitivity, we worked closely with telecommunication and structuralengineers and landscape designers. The 100m tall tower was engineered to withstand winds of up to 160km/h, ensuring structural stability and safety.
Furniture can also be a potential safety hazard for workers, so it’s even more important you move your stuff elsewhere. It’s a good idea to speak to a chartered property surveyor, who can identify any structural issues or other potential obstacles.
