I typically don’t give it a lot of thought – as soon as my architectural sketches have served their purpose, they get thrown away. So, keep my sketches or throw them away … I am struggling with that idea. Is this floor plan sketch art? I don’t consider them valuable or even worthwhile to keep.

I fell into the first category and used a few pictures that weren’t mine without accurately crediting the original source (a feat which is sometimes incredibly difficult to do) and I quoted others without referencing the original article in a footnote. In the case of my sketch, it was thousands.
The sketch above is one of the very first ones I created when I started thinking about what sort of playhouse I would design this year. It has long been a fantasy of mine to own a weekend cabin somewhere in the middle of nowhere … and by “nowhere” I mean somewhere between 1.5 and 3 hours from Dallas. In all, I spent around 2.5 days on site with my clients and other than some marathon work sessions, they kept to their holiday schedule.
Friends of mine lived a few blocks away on Wrightwood, so I would often walk by the solid front elevation and try to peer at the introverted house from the alley; I never got inside but appreciated the smooth concrete Ando was known for. Most valuable is Conforti's well-researched text.
I am a big believer in sketch sheets for internal use. Studying "The Way We Build" across time and space is an obsession of mine.
