Art deco designers shared a common desire to create a new aesthetic appropriate for a modern industrialised world, but the way in which this impulse was expressed visually could differ widely.

Portland -based interdisciplinary design studio Skylab Architecture has announced its partnership with woman-owned kit home manufacturer Steel Hut to design forward-thinking, affordable dwellings that boast increased fire resistance and durability for harsh climates. The interior of the homes are characterized as ultra-modern and warm.

MoMA Thailand is the abbreviation for Museum of Modern Aluminum Thailand. Thailand was once the largest aluminum manufacturer in Southeast Asia at the end of the 20th century. The project originated from a group of ambitious clients with the goal of reviving the significance of aluminum in Thailand.

Continuing our mid-century modern design series , we explore Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi 's Akari lamps made from Japanese washi paper, which remain a staple in stylish interiors to this day. The Akari lamps were designed by Noguchi, who began his career as an artist after dropping out of his premedical studies.
