Going viral: How the coronavirus pandemic could change the built environment

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic on March 11, and by the first week of April, there was a nearly 80% decline in occupancy for hotels in the U.S., according to the hospitality analytics company STR. That same week, the National Restaurant Association estimated that 110,000 restaurants could close within the following 30 days, on top of the 30,000 dining places that had already shuttered.

OSHA construction safety inspections fall 84% during COVID-19 pandemic

OSHA’s in-person checks of construction sites have plunged by 84% during the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency has focused its attention on virus transmission hazards in the health-care industry, according to OSHA data. In the first week of March, OSHA conducted about 395 construction inspections. The number of inspections at construction sites dropped to about 65 during the week of April 26.
