New York City market continues to lead the U.S. Construction Pipeline

In the recent U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report released by Lodging Econometrics (LE), at the close of Q1‘21, New York City continues to hold the lead amongst U.S. markets for the most projects in the U.S. construction pipeline with 145 projects/24,762 rooms. Other U.S. markets that follow are Los Angeles with 144 projects/23,994 rooms, Dallas with 135 projects/16,260 rooms, Atlanta with 132 projects/18,264 rooms, and Orlando with 98 projects/17,536 rooms.

Pressed metal frames are common in Southern Africa. Simple, robust and built-in as the brickwork proceeds. I created a “frame-only” family, added a plank with a nail at the top to hook over the frame and bricks to weight the base. These hold the frames vertical while you plumb it up, and as you build it in to the wall. These are not the kinds of families you would make as an architect, or even as a “BIM-enabled” contractor managing projects on site.

While this is a slight dip in the pipeline year-over-year (YOY), it’s not unexpected given the lockdown and travel restrictions over the past year. Further, the pipeline shows no signs of great decline compared to what occurred during the ’08 and ’09 recession.

Dept. of Energy publishes energy savings analysis for ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2019

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released its preliminary determination of energy savings for ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2019. The study affirmed that the updated code will increase energy efficiency in commercial buildings. The analysis, performed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), indicates that buildings meeting Standard 90.1-2019 (as compared to the previous 2016 edition) would result in national average energy savings of about: · 4.7% site energy.
