A few years ago, in his book “Parking and the City,” Donald Shoup, distinguished research professor of urban planning at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs, estimated that there were eight parking spaces for every vehicle that was on the road in the U.S. Other research also shows that one in three Americans doesn’t have a park within a 10-minute walk from his or her home.

First and foremost, I am here to tell you that despite my own behavior, you really should find a way to take the time off your company provides. It's important for your mental and physical health, improved familial relationships, greater well-being, it'll allow you to keep focused when on the job, not to mention that vacations are something that most people look forward to so there is the "anticipation benefit" (one of the more underrated benefits by my estimation).

Today these skills are not required knowledge for builders. We have steel carpenter squares that have true 90* corners, as well as levels and lasers. The carpenter squares shown here are some of the earliest made in the States. They were made in Shaftsbury and N. Bennington, VT, 1825-60. Some are on display at the Bennington Museum; all are available for study.

We are all familiar with the phrase “style over substance,” but those words might mean something else to architects. If I were to look at a project and describe it with this particular phrase, there is no question that this would reflect a negative opinion.
