Toquerville is a small community northwest of St. George, located on the banks of Ash Creek, which runs down along the rim of the Great Basin to the Virgin River. Near the center of town is one of the oldest standing buildings, an original LDS Chapel built in 1879. The goal of this project was to provide a gathering place for Boston University’s more than 300,000 graduates that would put them right at the heart of the Charles River campus. This adaptive reuse of a historic Tudor-Victorian mansion required a complete exterior restoration, the installation of a new commercial kitchen and HVAC system, and an extensive expansion of the BU Pub.

A campus that consisted of the shuttered St. Rose de Lima Church and two brick-and-wood school buildings ruined by Hurricane Katrina is now a venue that supports New Orleans’s cultural arts and education sector. The Canada Green Building Council recently certified the first 10 projects under its Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) Standard. The projects include new and existing offices, schools, and warehouses, with each demonstrating that buildings of all types and age can achieve zero carbon emissions, according to a Council news release. The ZCB Standard was designed to guide the industry in building to zero and help Canada meet its international emissions targets by 2030.
