Gehry’s Disney Concert Hall to be repurposed as Olympic skate ramp for 2028 LA Games

In a bold and unexpected move, the LA 2028 Olympic Committee has announced plans to temporarily convert the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall into a state-of-the-art skateboarding mega ramp. Designed by architect Frank Gehry and completed in 2003, the stainless-steel-clad concert hall is known for its flowing, sculptural forms which, according to Olympic organizers, are “basically already half pipe-adjacent.

Copyright exemption plans for AI are "nothing less than vandalism" say UK architects and designers

Leading UK architects and designers including David Chipperfield, Jasper Morrison and Amanda Levete have opposed government plans to allow artificial intelligence companies to train their models on copyrighted work without consent. A letter signed by 38 big names in the industry accuses technology secretary Peter Kyle of "running roughshod over one of our most productive and precious sectors".

New York City passes "Get Sheds Down" legislation to reduce city's scaffolding

New York City has passed several bills aimed at reducing the nearly 400 miles of scaffolding sheds covering buildings in the city, some of which have been installed for more than five years. Under mayor Eric Adams Get Sheds Down plan announced in 2023, the bills passed by New York City Council initiate a redesign of the scaffolding structures and limit the duration of their installation from one year to three months, among other reforms.
