The Créateurs Design Awards has named multidisciplinary Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce as the 2023 recipient of the Andrée Putman Lifetime Achievement Award. Pesce will be honored at the upcoming Awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Paris in January. The annual program recognizes extraordinary work in architecture, interior design, product design, photography, journalism, and curation.

Francis Kéré has been announced as the architect of a new virtual museum of stolen cultural artifacts for UNESCO. The project will exhibit 3D versions of the objects while at the same time elevating the voices and narratives of the global communities from which they were taken. Renderings released along with its announcement show a large transparent dome with gallery spaces lining a Guggenheim-like spiraling central ramp, inspired by the African baobab tree.

The planning authority in London’s Royal Borough of Greenwich has ordered the demolition of a new residential development along the River Thames. In a statement, the authority concluded that the 23-story building, named Mast Quay Phase II, was “so substantially different to the scheme that was originally permitted” that the development’s ultimate construction was unlawful.

Kongjian Yu has been announced as the winner of this year’s Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize by The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF). Yu follows University of Virginia emeritus professor Julie Bargmann as the second winner of the bi-annual $100,000 award, which was first established in 2021 in order to celebrate practitioners whose work addresses various social issues while improving the overall trajectory of the public realm.

Architecture studio Arsenit has designed Piil, a modular wood-and-steel holiday home elevated above the ground at the edge of a forest in Estonia. The cantilevered house, which the studio describes as a treehouse, was made from steel and metal and was designed to balance on one leg above a wooden terrace. The house balances above a wooden terrace It features a large cantilever that elevates the living spaces 4.25 metres above ground and creates a sheltered outdoor space.

Located in the Wannsee district of Berlin Steglitz-Zehlendorf, this three-storey residential building with underground parking is situated on the shores of the lake Griebnitzsee. The property, in an exposed location on the lakeside, widens out towards the shore and has generous access to the water. We were commissioned by our clients to transform an outdated Flemish 3-fronted house with traditional rear extension into a contemporary home with plenty of light. The new home had to feel especially spacious and, above all, take advantage of the view to the green area behind. In the design, we kept the main house and replaced the rear extension. The newly added volume follows the same movement as the original side façade and juts out slightly each time.

French interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon has created the interior for boutique hotel Cowley Manor Experimental, adding chequerboard details and hidden keyholes to the rooms of the former country house. Meilichzon drew on the history of the Cowley Manor Experimental , which is said to have inspired author Lewis Carroll to write Alice in Wonderland, when designing the interior for the hotel.

A "sacred space" made from CLT panels and a cloud canopy made from strips of woven bamboo are among the pavilions being shown at New York City's Design Pavilion event. Created by Shanghai-based studio llLab and designer Michael Bennett of Studio Kër, the two pavilions display sustainable building materials and techniques. The transformation of an aging brutalist monument to communism into a new tech education center geared toward teenagers in the capital city of Albania has been officially inaugurated following a three-and-a-half-year revitalization effort led by MVRDV. The project remade the 127,000-square-foot Pyramid of Tirana , first established as a museum dedicated to the legacy of dictator Enver Hoxha in 1988, into the centerpiece of a new cultural hub and park space located in the heart of the city.

Chinese landscape architect Kongjian Yu has been awarded the 2023 Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize for his contributions to the field. Yu is the second recipient of the prize, which is awarded by the Cultural Landscape Foundation ( TCLF ) for global contributions to the field of landscape architecture. The citation from the jury called Yu "a force for progressive change in landscape architecture around the world".

We were commissioned to transform an existing 2-car garage into a place where the residents could retreat and enjoy the garden. On top of that, the need for a covered parking space remained. In its original state, the existing L-shaped house embraces the terrace. By adding a new volume, we enclosed that outdoor area along the east side as well. This creates a U-shaped patio that radiates a southern atmosphere through the flamingo-pink flagstones and vegetation.
