Brooks + Scarpa designed the home for long-time clients who were ready to trade their decade-long life in the Hollywood film industry for a tranquil lifestyle reminiscent of their upbringing near Montreal, Canada. The studio also recently released an angular concept for a Holocaust memorial outside the Florida state capitol in Tallahassee.

Typically found in commercial or industrial buildings rather than custom houses, the architects adapted the concept to create a folding railing that Shahan can toggle between two positions, depending on if he wants to access the guest suite below or to add 40 square feet to his living room.

The site formerly held a run-down, 1940s dwelling that was owned by the clients. The new house needed to have plenty of space to accommodate frequent visits from the clients' grown kids, who live out of town.
