We looked to the bush – those forested, undeveloped areas of nature that surround the house – while allowing the built structures to adapt to the natural terrain," the studio said. The roof planes fold down along the perimeter of each pavilion, turning to copper screens that create shadow patterns on the interior spaces.
The structure's "monumental" form draws on American memorial architecture "The United States has a strong tradition when it comes to memorials," Kaan Architecten co-founder Vincent Panhuysen told Dezeen. "All This inspiring concept has set the tone for the design of this building for us," he continued. The photography is by Simon Menges.

Called Sunset Hammock, the structure consists of a long aluminium walkway painted red with a massive periscope at one end. According to the studio, the structure is meant to be a contrast with the local nature and to frame it. A set of stairs allows the platform to be accessed directly from the grassy grounds surrounding the structure.
The structure was built using a mass-timber frame fabricated in Minnesota, while locally sourced brick and concrete were used throughout the rest of building. The building's third floor contains offices and a digital workspace.
The landscape elements were designed to be in conversation both with the existing civic structures as well as the architectural pavilions installed by Texas-based Lake Flato , whose founders earned the AIA gold medal in 2024. According to the team, the undulating roofs of the two performance structures reference the fluid movement of dance.
One finds a clear and fluid layout inside The home has a concrete base and a structural frame made of glue-laminated timber. An infinity swimming pool was positioned to the north of the house The home's "prismatic form" is kinked at the centre to maximise views.
The building is organized around a repeating grid of slender quadripartite columns that frame views and support a lightweight trussed roof structure. Have one to share? Post it here. This large overhanging roof canopy unites the four volumes and forms a perimeter verandah.
Elliott Architects demolished the main house and relocated the other two structures to start the design with a clean slate. The client was not beholden to the prevailing style of houses in the area, most of which are traditional, vernacular, New England wood-framed structures," the studio said. Two "maker courtyards" sit at ground-level "Their structures, which are among the first exposed mass timber structures in California and include a one-of-a-kind eccentric braced frame system, allow their natural materiality and lateral and gravity loads to be visible," said the studio.
Additionally, the team added a 24-kilowatt Tesla solar roof array that powers the home, bringing it to a net-zero energy structure. Leong Leong also added a second level above the kitchen that holds a dedicated playroom, topped with a roof deck that affords views of the skyline.

Architect Mark Stoner has led the restoration of Philip Johnson's Brick House It follows the building's closure in 2008 after the structure suffered ongoing "water intrusion" due to its sloping site. It measures half the depth of the Glass House, although both structures are 56 feet long (17 metres).
The screens will juxtapose the brick and black structural steel that will be included to reference the site's industrial heritage, according to HOK. Brick and black structural steel will clad the facade "Stadia are typically inward-focused buildings with solid exteriors that consume long stretches of valuable city blocks," the team said.
The structural system is made primarily of wood In plan, the two-storey building takes the shape of a wide V. The structural system is made primarily of wood, and the facades are clad in northern white cedar.
Interior finishes are "Red List free" After exploring various ways of arranging the structural columns and load distribution, SOM decided on a clear, 44-foot-long (13-metre) span over the tracks. The photography is by Dave Burk and Lucas Blair Simpson.
The building form is addressed both additively and subtractively, creating a synergised, consolidated structure that encourages non-hierarchical relationships between office employees and factory staff," the CLB Architects team told Dezeen.
The two structures are mirrors of each other and are divided by a courtyard with a privacy wall in the middle Set on 40-foot (12-metre) wide lots, the linear homes measure only 20 feet (6 metres) at their widest, leaving plenty of space for outdoor areas on either side of the house for residents to enjoy.
