The extension is accessed by steps that also function as bookshelves and informal seating. Relocating an existing boiler cupboard maximised the opening between the kitchen and extension and opened up views through the house from front to back. The first, prototype version of Piil was completed in early 2023. The interior of the space is conceived as a large piece of joinery, all in white-washed oak.
