Stefano Boeri Architetti reveals masterplan for "one of the most sacred sites of Buddhism"

Italian studio Stefano Boeri Architetti has unveiled its masterplan for a meditation centre and landscaped gardens at the Ramagrama stupa, a Buddhist pilgrimage site in Nepal. The heart of the masterplan is the Peace Meadow The site is located in Ramagrama, a municipality on the banks of the Jharahi River in western Nepal.

The site presented challenging constraints including a former tenants’ hall and public right of way, existing mature trees and a neighbouring terrace of listed Georgian buildings. The landscape design achieves a net gain in biodiversity and exceeds the required urban greening factor of 0.5.

Other recent projects by the studio include a proposal for a meditation centre at "one of the most sacred sites of Buddhism" and a masterplan for Smart Forest City in Mexico. Today its main office is in Milan, but it also has offices in Shanghai and Tirana.

A bill that could make zoning more inclusive

The settlement is a result of a complaint filed with HUD by the NAACP Baltimore Branch, Baltimore Neighborhoods, and three individuals in November 2011. The bill would work in tandem with the new 2030 Masterplan which recognizes the need for "retrofit" in lieu of paving over more of the dwindling open space.
