After the camp was partly destroyed by a fire in 2010, Perkins&Will 's LA studio was tasked with designing new sleeping cabins, restroom facilities and a dining hall. The site also has two villages designated for tent camping. The site's 24 cabins are shaped like an A, and its lavatory buildings resemble an A cut in half.

The brewery was founded in 1890 and takes its name from the then-innovational technique of steam-driven machinery. In successive decades the site was occupied by stone masonry and after that, it was abandoned. Since 2010 the site has been revitalized.

In order to reach all points on the site without damaging the trees, the contractor had to use a concrete pump truck with a giant arm on it. We even met the owner on site and walked the concrete pour with him and explained what was happening. All that’s left are the basement walls, driveways, sidewalks, and exterior stairs.

The glazed living room stands on the site of the former goat sheds and is structurally a steel structure. We also applied a traditional Japanese folk technique of charred wood shou-sugi-ban and the entire superstructure of the sauna house on the roof terrace is treated in this way. The house uses every bit of the steep sloping plot.
