Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly dies aged 78

In the UK he designed 20 Fenchurch Street in London, which is widely known as the Walkie Talkie due to its shape, along with the masterplan for Battersea Power Station and the Firstsite visual arts centre in Colchester. In 1989, Viñoly designed Tokyo International Forum, which featured a 60-meter-high curtain wall.

RIBA unveils Stirling Prize 2024 shortlist

Jamie Fobert Architects' overhaul of the National Portrait Gallery with Purcell is also shortlisted, alongside the King's Cross Masterplan by Allies and Morrison and Porphyrios Associates. RIBA president Muyiwa Oki praised the six shortlisted projects "for placing regeneration and restoration front and centre".

The only building on the shortlist that is not in London is the Faculty of Arts for Warwick University designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios for a site in Coventry.
