Taking cues from other abstract modern monuments, it signalled a sense of closure in the aftermath of the attacks, a new era for New York City and the complexities of rebuilding in such a dense environment. It represents an architecture of absence, a sort of wound in the urban fabric that pointed to the horror of that day and its legacy.

The latter partnership realized Kirchsteigfeld , the masterplan for a new town for around 10,000 inhabitants in Potsdam, Germany. The project that follows Kirchsteigfeld is another important masterplan: Brandevoort, a residential district for some 20,000 residents in Helmond, Netherlands.

misfits' architecture

This semester Im teaching a course on modern Japanese architecture and am noticing an absence of information on which Japanese architects were doing what, where and why during WWII. Both are important buildings in Japans pre-war history of modern architecture. It wasnt long in coming, but lets not race ahead. Unremembered.
