Founded by Francis Kéré in 2005, with a dual focus on design and social commitment, the studio’s scope encompasses building, design and knowledge sharing. I only met him once, at the Architecture Foundation in London with my boss Eva Jiricna (ex-Richard Rogers), but his influence was already pervasive on my thinking before starting at architecture school in 1989. East Darling Harbour Masterplan , Sydney, Australia. RSHP said Davies “will remain employed in a part-time role.”

Owing to Meinhard von Gerkan’s active involvement, the practice has completed over 170 projects in China, including the conversion and extension of the Chinese National Museum in Beijing, and the masterplan for Nanhui New City near Shanghai. Von Gerkan was co-founder of the gmp Foundation and of the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac).

The studio is working on variety of projects and research tasks in different scales, from furniture design to architectural projects to urban masterplanning and public space design. In 2012 he became an independent expert for The Mies van der Rohe Foundation. The team is led by Jola Starzak and Dawid Strębicki.
